Acupuncture involves the insertion of extremely thin needles through your skin at strategic points on your body.
Traditional Chinese medicine explains acupuncture as a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as qi or chi (CHEE) — believed to flow through pathways or meridians, in your body. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, practitioners believe that your energy flow will re-balance.
“In contrast, many Western practitioners view the acupuncture points as places to stimulate nerves, muscles and connective tissue. Some believe that this stimulation boosts your body’s natural painkillers and increases blood flow.” Mayo Clinic http://www.mayoclinic.org/tests-procedures/acupuncture/basics/definition/prc-20020778
As a naturopathic doctor, my training allows me to use acupuncture from either (or both) an Eastern or Western perspective. When patients finish their acupuncture treatment they leave the clinic feeling calm and relaxed.
Read below for the top 5 conditions I treat using acupuncture:
1. Pain
I’m talking about headaches, low back pain, neck pain, arthritic pain (knees etc.), tennis elbow, sciatica… This treatment improves recovery by encouraging blood flow, mobilizing joints, releasing and relaxing muscles.
2. Allergies
To relieve congestion and balance the body’s immune system. If you’re experiencing seasonal allergies, come on in and get some immediate (and long-term) relief!
3. Mental health
I once had a patient remark that my relaxing acupuncture treatment was “better than sex”! 😮 Think of acupuncture to help addiction, depression, anxiety (and insomnia).
4. Digestion
Issues such as constipation or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can be improved with acupuncture.
5. Fertility
Acupuncture can be used to treat female hormonal conditions, which could impact fertility, but it is also being used to boost the effectiveness of intrauterine insemination (IUI) or in-vitro fertilization (IVF).
